Teacher Bio

Welcome to 8th grade science!! Here is just a little bit about me.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jerry Collard.

He is a police officer in Memphis; we have been happily married since 1990. We have three great children William, a senior at Mississippi State. Stephanie, a Sophomore/Junior at Northwest/Ole Miss, and Aaron, a Sophomore at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. All my children graduated from Desoto Central. My world revolves around them so much of the time; they are my life as well is volleyball! We all enjoy sports, from soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, band, rugby and football; we love them all. When they do not keep me busy, coaching Volleyball fills the gap...

I graduated from SBEC in 1985. I was very involved in sports while I was in high school and things have not changed for me, I still enjoy watching, playing and coaching sports. After graduation, I chose to attend the University of Memphis then known as Memphis State University. I started to go into nursing, due to the persuasion of my mother I changed my major to Cytology. It was a really great decision though. I had to transfer to the University of Tennessee, Medical Center Campus in Memphis. I graduated with a bachelors in Cytology.

I began working at the University lab and taught future cytology students laboratory techniques. I moved to the private laboratory setting working as a bench cytotechnologist. I moved up to be laboratory manager for 8 years. After leaving the laboratory setting, I began teaching in the preschool setting and then became an assistant at DCES in 2006. I have chosen to go the alternate route to get my teaching certification and received my Masters of Art in Teaching from Belhaven in June 2009, while teaching here at Desoto Central Middle School.

I have been so blessed with the doors the Lord has opened for me. I began teaching full time after Christmas 2007 here at DCMS when Mr. Stockett was called to duty. I have really enjoyed teaching,  and I look forward to getting to know all my students; however, I am horrible with names but remember faces. I began coaching volleyball and basketball in 2009-2010 school year and I absolutely love it; I handed off the basketball torch in 2016. I look forward to watching athletes and students grow.

I always try to learn ALL their names (at least one either first or last) and faces,  and keep those faces in my memory bank (I tend to forget names sometimes so remind me if I do). I love children, and this is where my God wants for me to be; He has placed me here for a reason. We will have a great and exciting year. I will hold your child to very high expectations, and I will take NO excuses, so please don't let them try to use them.
